Floodlit action at Oldham
BAMFORD Fieldhouse proved too strong for Royton in last night’s floodlit Twenty20 match at Oldham.
Taking first guard, Saddleworth League champions Bamford made an impressive 149 for five thanks to a whirlwind knock of 60 from overseas amateur Lincoln Roberts and 40 from Dave Roberts.
Royton were bowled out for 98.
Hosts Oldham beat Crompton by eight wickets in the first match in the tournament.
Crompton were skittled for 64 and Oldham passed that total for the loss of only two wickets, Nick Maree hitting a six to complete their victory.
Tonight’s latest group match (8.30pm) sees Royton take on the President’s XI, which comprises players from the Saddleworth League. Werneth play Crompton tomorrow night.
LANCASHIRE Over-50s will appear at Lord’s in the final of the National Cup on Sunday, September 28.
They defeated Somerset by 56 runs in Bristol yesterday to book a showdown with Oxfordshire.
Lancashire batted first and made 166 for nine, Mike Ingham hitting 37, Middleton’s John Punchard 36 and debutant Barry Woodward (Royton) 18.
Somerset were dismissed for 110, Chris Dearden taking three for 17, Punchard two for 29 and Flowery Field’s Howard Lyons two for 15. Dearden and Woodward took stunning catches.
