Angling round-up

TOM HUGHES and John Conway tied for top spot with 9lb in the Cranberry AC match on Fleets Dam.

Two carp and some skimmers on the pole and maggot accounted for Hughes’ bag.

Steve Orr, in third place, used a 10-metre pole and caster for a catch of silver fish, while fourth-placed Tony Lees opted for the short pole, caster and maggot in a 6lb net of silver fish.

o THE big wide on the ward lane length of the Huddersfield Narrow Canal was the place to be in the SADAS open match.

Bob Harrison (Team HB) claimed top spot thanks to a blistering first 90 minutes when he took the majority of his 18lb 6oz of skimmers on pole-fished pellet.

Steve Baines (Tight Lines) was close up in second with 17lb 13oz of skimmers and tench to 2lb on pole and pellet.

And pellet again helped Mick Jewitt (Tight Lines) to 11lb 12oz and third place.

o KEITH Butterworth won the Oldham Central AC match on Cudmore Fisheries’ pool two.

He had a 30lb 2oz bag of carp and silver fish on pellet in the margins.

Dave Barnet, in second place, opted for cheese up in the water for 26lb 9oz of carp.

o IN-FORM David White clinched first place in the SADAS members only match on Eagle Mill Dam.

Employing pellet at nine and 11 metres, he caught skimmers to 12 ounces for 15lb 1oz, which relegated Fenton Tenant into second place.

He had bream and tench on pellet to weigh in 13lb.

Venue Guide

Rochdale Canal — Fishing well with plenty of skimmers caught on the Middleton lengths. The odd bream and tench are still coming out of the Boarshaw Bridge lengths. Pellet is attracting a better quality of fish.

Ashton Canal — Patchy but bread punch is tempting the odd fish.

Park Lake — Still fishing well with maggot, caster and pellet the best baits.

Strinesdale Reservoir — Plenty of silver fish about.

Huddersfield Narrow Canal — Pellet is drawing the most fish on the SADAS water but on the Greenfield and Uppermill lengths bread punch is enticing plenty of silver fish.
