Inbev bowls

REIGNING ‘A’ Division champions Royle proved too strong for last year’s ‘B’ Division winners Springhead on the opening day of the Inbev Winter Bowling League season at Chadderton Cot.

Royle won 9-2, but there were some fine efforts by the Springhead players, most notably from Terry Rogers and P Edwards, who defeated Matt Gillies and Errol Davies.

Waterloo and Taunton beat Springbank 9-2, but the scoreline hardly did Springbank justice as they lost the aggregate by only 10 chalks.

Hopwood also registered a 9-2 victory over New Street, Mark Heselwood leading the way with a 21-8 success.

Tonge, relegated last season, made a good start to life in the ‘B’ Division with a 9-2 defeat of North Chadderton.

Dogwood beat Lower Failsworth 10-1 in an action replay of last season’s opening-day match, while Vixens had three winners in their match against Nimble Nook, J Wild enjoying a fine victory.
