Chadderton hit by points deduction

CHADDERTON’S woes continue as the Broadway club’s second team has been hit by a nine-point penalty.

As a result of the punishment for two administrative blunders, the team has plummeted from second place to third bottom of the reserve division.

Chadderton, who were involved in a goalless draw at Atherton LR at the weekend, didn’t realise they had to re-sign John Shaw who had played for them last season.

The second case involved Steve Barrow, a recent signing from Sunday football. Chadderton had intended to register him on the day of the game at Wigan Robin Park only to discover their opponents did not have a fax machine so they were unable to send the relevant paperwork to the league.

Barrow played and a club official sent the forms to the league on the Monday only to put them in the fax machine the wrong way round. By the time the league finally received the paperwork a week had passed from the signing.

Chadderton’s first team are in action tonight at Rochdale Town in the first division of the Vodkat North West Counties League.

Manager Paul Buckley has selection problems with Adam Whitehead, Nick Fraine and Louis Maynard all unavailable through university studies.

With Bobby Fulham and Marvin Walters still injured, Buckley will have a makeshift side in action against the former Castleton Gabriels side.

Chadderton continue to triumph over adversity and Saturday’s dramatic 4-3 victory against Darwen - they were 4-0 ahead midway through the second half - lifted them to fifth place in the league table.

OLDHAM TOWN have signed Jake Cottrell from Middleton Sunday League side Langley Celtic to help ease their defensive troubles.

The 19-year-old made his debut in Saturday’s FA Vase second-qualifying round tie at AFC Emley where Town triumphed 6-2.

Town were without injured central defenders Tim Buxton and Damian Schofield and Tom Matley, who was ill, so Cottrell is likely to be a regular for the foreseeable future.

Mills was delighted with the response of his side because the previous week they had crashed to a 5-0 defeat at AFC Liverpool which was followed by a clear-the-air meeting last Tuesday instead of the normal training session.

Town, who picked up £900 prize money, are at home to Vodkat NWCL premier division side Congleton Town in the first round proper of the Vase on Saturday, October 4.

MOSSLEY have released midfield player Dave Prout, one of manager Chris Willcock’s summer captures.

Willcock says the departure of Prout, who played for Southport in Blue Square North last season, was due to work and travel issues.

Prout is employed by an American bank in Manchester and also ives a distance away in Ormskirk.

Willcock has also released squad players Ben Wharton and Rob Parsonage, but signed Mitch Bailey from Blue Square North side Hyde United to strengthen midfield.

OLDHAM Town drew 1–1 against Stalybridge Celtic ‘B’ in the North West Youth Alliance, with Michael Tabs scoring the equalising goal.

Town, who play Ashton Town on Sunday at the Whitebank Stadium, are still looking for a striker. Contact Abid Hussain on 07815 509025.
