Taylor spot-on as Town escape
Date published: 25 September 2008
CARL Taylor held his nerve from the penalty spot as Royton Town got out of jail at home to Hindsford in the Bridgewater Office Supplies Manchester League premier division.
The Glebe Street outfit were within seconds of suffering their fourth defeat of the season.
But they were given a lifeline when Danny Taylor’s free-kick was blocked by a Hindsford player’s hand — and Carl stepped up to clinch a 2-2 draw.
Town went in front courtesy of a Michael Moss header, only for the visitors, who were second best in the first half, to storm back after the break.
Hindsford equalised after the hour mark and nosed ahead with six minutes to go, but Town’s late pressure paid off.
After conceding four goals the previous week, Hollinwood went one better in losing 5-0 to early-season table-toppers Gregorians.
Town were the only local side to pick up a point in the premier division as Springhead went down 1-0 at Chapel Town and Avro were beaten 3-1 by Prestwich Heys. See John Gilder’s Match of the Day.
