Higginshaw future secured
Date published: 25 September 2008
A BRIGHT future appears to lie ahead of Higginshaw ARLFC, with the club having officially announced that the purchase of the clubhouse will be completed by next Tuesday.
The long awaited acquisition of the premises, previously owned by St Stephens Church, is only the start.
Having now achieved charity status, which allows development of the existing premises, there are plans afoot to create a multi-sports hall on the site of the current community centre between the social club and dressing rooms. Expansion of the current youth set-up is also on the cards.
To celebrate the news — and to raise money to pay for the inevitable associated expenses — the club is inviting all past and present players and committee members to a sportsman's dinner next Friday, October 3, at the Shaw Road Conservative Club, at which the development plans for the future of the club as a whole will be unveiled.
The top table on the night includes former Oldham and St Helens star Tommy Martyn as guest speaker, with comedian Kirtis King and MC Michael 'Braddy' Bradshaw. Contact John Mellor on 07970 100606 for further details.
Higginshaw, without a game last week, are at home to Eccles and Salford Juniors on Saturday afternoon (2.30pm).
