Classic line-up for Springbank final

THERE’S lots of local interest in the finals of the John Willie Lees Classic at Springbank on Sunday (2pm), when the winner will pocket £350.
Draw: W McDermott v G Shaw (Hollinwood); M Hodson (Chadderton) v D Griffiths (Chadderton); C Kewley (Hollinwood) v S P Heap (Saddleworth); M Garbett (Staffordshire) v S Copeland (Middleton).
Springbank also hosts the finals of Greater Manchester Bowling Association’s Blesma Trophy tonight when the players taking part are Wilf McDermott, Colin Lane, Paul Heap, Bob Nisbet, Alan Bidwell, Matt Gillies, Alan Hodson and Eddie Galston.
TONGE’S hopes of finishing fourth in the Manchester Premier League suffered a knock when they lost 10-4.5 (189-164) at St Helens side British Plate.
Gary Ellis (21-13), Steve Squire (21-14) and Darren Griffiths (21-15) were the winners for Tonge, who entertain Liverpool side Richmond in their last game of the season next Wednesday (7.30pm).
REIGNING ‘A’ Division champions Royle take on last season’s runners-up Waterloo and Taunton in the second set of fixtures in the Inbev Winter Bowling League at Chadderton Cot.
Tomorrow (‘B’ Division): 9.45am - Tonge v Nimble Nook; Noon - Vixens v Failsworth; 2.15pm - Prestwich v North Chadderton.
Sunday (‘A’ Division): 9-45am - Radcliffe v Lees/Springhead; Royle v Waterloo and Taunton; Springbank v Hopwood.
A FAILSWORTH Bowling League delegates meeting will be held next Tuesday (8pm) at Stanley Road Conservative Club for the payment of final accounts and collection of presentation night tickets.
THE final of the Manchester Premier Cup, between Tonge and Springbank, will be held at Moorside Cricket Club on Tuesday week, October 7 (7pm).
STANLEY Road Conservative Club won the Rochdale Veterans’ League Fred Lord Cup, beating Bamford BC in the final at Whitworth Festival Park.
