Oldham teams’s promising start

AFC OLDHAM 2005 have made a promising start to the new Lancashire and Cheshire League season.

Fourth in division two, six points behind embryonic table-toppers New Manchester FC, they overcame VIP FC 3-2 in their latest encounter.

Oldham Victoria are right behind them after they defeated Manchester Rovers by an identical scoreline, but there was disappointment for new-boys Santos AFC.

Three goals adrift inside the opening 20 minutes to Milton, they eventually went down 3-1 in their first home league match.

They did have their chances, Adam McKinney wasting a great opportunity before half-time and Chris Sarsfield missing a penalty.

Santos had to wait until late on to get their goal when John Mayall fired home a free-kick.
It’s still early days in division ‘C’, but Oldham Victoria reserves are up and running after a 3-0 win over their Manchester Rovers counterparts.

But there were defeats for the second strings of AFC Oldham and Santos AFC, the latter losing 4-2 against Stoconians thirds despite goals from Anthony Curran and Dominic Rathmill.

AFC Oldham thirds top division ‘D’ on goal-difference after a 3-1 win over Stoconians fourths.
