Bamford count the cost

MARTIN Wolfenden surveys the scene at Bamford Fieldhouse Cricket Club after a fire swept through the roof of the pavilion.
Mr Wolfenden, along with other members of the club’s committee, are still coming to terms with the extent of the damage.
Secretary Graham Schofield said: “We’re waiting to hear from our insurers, but it is a real mess. We’ve had to cancel 18 functions up until Christmas and obviously any deposits will be paid back in full.
“It could have been much worse. We were fortunate, I suppose, in that the fire was mostly concentrated in the roof section of the building.”
Around 15 firefighters spent four hours at the Hollin Lane ground late Thursday night through to the early hours of Friday morning tackling the blaze.
It is believed that the fire started near to the door at the side of the conservatory which forms part of the pavilion.
Bamford Fieldhouse are the reigning Saddleworth and District Cricket League champions and were beaten finalists in the Tanner Cup.
