Lilywhites chasing cup cash

MOSSLEY are involved in another quest for cash when they launch their FA Trophy campaign at home to Stocksbridge Park Steels tomorrow.

Having already banked £9,000 from their successful FA Cup campaign, the Lilywhites will pick up a further £2,000 if they win their preliminary round tie against the Sheffield side.

Manager Chris Willcock says their success in knock-out competitions — they didn’t win a tie in any cups last season — has brought a welcome source of revenue for the Seel Park outfit.

He is pleased with the way his youngsters have hit back after two defeats to win at Kendal Town, who are from a higher division, in the FA Cup.

“We are a young side — the average age is down to 20 following the departure of Phil Charnock — and we showed great character at Kendal,” explained Willcock.

The Mossley chief is expecting a difficult challenge from Steels, who are riding high in UniBond League first division south.

OLDHAM TOWN continue their FA Vase campaign at home to Congleton Town in the third qualifying round.

Congleton play one division higher in the Vodkat North-West Counties League so will provide a tough test for Town, who had an impressive 6-2 victory at AFC Emley in the last round.

Manager Tony Mills, who will miss the match through work commitments, has received some defensive cheer with Tim Buxton and Damian Schofield back after injury.

Midfield man Leon Melia is also available after completing a one-match ban.

CHADDERTON hit the road to Padiham in division one of the Vodkat NWCL tomorrow.

Manager Paul Buckley will be looking for his side to bounce back after last Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Bootle, where teenage midfield player Nathan Jackson broke a leg.

Chadderton are at home to Bootle tomorrow in the reserve division.
