Parker picks up Werneth trophy

WERNETH’S final major of the season saw Arnold Parker lift The Grasshopper Trophy.
He had a return of 83-18-65 which was one shot clear of second-placed John Suttie (78-12-66).
SADDLEWORTH captain Bernard Woodhead’s charity event produced a victory for Dave Park and Oldham’s Eric Charles in the four-ball Stableford after they amassed 43 points.
Runners-up were Ray Dean and Andy Clarke (41pts), on the card from Martin Orme and Chris Stanley.
Martin Lewis took the first division honours in OLDHAM’S monthly medal with a score of 75-11-64.
Terry Garrett (73-8-65) was runner-up, on the card from Sam Lunt (75-10-65).
Sam Gilbey (77-15-62) stole the show in division two, finishing well clear of Pete Dowd (81-15-66) and Alex Simmons (91-20-71).
Neil Pragnall triumphed after a card play-off against Darryl Sowerby to determine top spot in the first division of STAMFORD’S monthly medal.
Pragnall’s return was 81-12-69 while Sowerby’s score was 82-13-69.
Harry Marshall (82-16-66) was the clear winner of the second division from Paul Clarke (85-15-70).
A card play-off was also needed to settle the top two spots in division two with Derek Johnston (89-19-70) edging out Phil Stafford (96-26-70).
Winter qualifier No 3 at BROOKDALE produced a first-division victory for Gary Lever (70-5-65) from Peter Lloyd (72-6-66) who was second on the card from Ian Reeves (77-11-66). Fourth was Doug Jones (74-6-68).
Heading the second division was John Peace (80-16-64) from Neil Buller (85-19-66) who was second on the card from Keith Power (87-21-66) while fourth place went to Roy Taylor (92-25-67).
Father-and-son Mick and Jordan Flint emerged the victors in a four-ball Stableford at CROMPTON AND ROYTON scoring 41 points, one clear of runners-up Danny Heap and Keith Ward.
WOMEN’S SECTION
KATH Whitehead (100-26-74) needed a card play-off against Barbara Mitchell (104-30-74) before triumphing in LGU No 8 at SADDLEWORTH.
