THE battle for the North West Cyclo-Cross League continues this weekend with two events in the Manchester area which look set to test the riders’ skills and stamina.

Saturday sees round four at Clayton Vale in Manchester, while 24 hours later the riders will tackle a tough course at Boggart Hole Clough on Charlestown Road.

Round two winner Keith Murray (Hope Factory Racing) had to settle for second spot in last weekend’s round with Burnley’s Ian Wilkinson (Science in Sport.com) taking victory by just seven seconds on a wet and windy course at Sutton Manor Forestry on Merseyside.

Sixth overall was SportCity Velo junior Martin Woffenden who turned in a strong ride, while FP Mailing Cycling Team’s Rob Pugh, who leads the league, improved one spot to third after just missing out on the podium in round two.

Racing on Saturday at Clayton begins at 12.30pm with the youth race and continues with under-12s at 1.15pm and the seniors, juniors, veterans and women all at 1.45pm.

And the following day’s events at Boggart Hole Clough begin at 11.30am with the youths, followed by under-12s at 12.15pm and seniors, juniors, veterans and woman at 1pm.
