HOPWOOD made a triumphant return to Inbev Winter Bowling League ‘A’ Division action following a week off because of an open date.

The Heywood lads registered a 10-1 victory over last year’s ‘B’ Division champions Lees/Springhead, whose only winner was Stuart Wild.

Reigning champions Royle beat Radcliffe 8-3 to retain their nine-points lead at the top, Waterloo and Taunton moving into second following their 9-2 defeat of New Street.

Saturday’s big games sees Royle take on Hopwood, who are third with a game in hand.

Nimble Nook beat Dogwood 8-3 to retain second place in the ‘B’ Division, but lost a point to leaders Tonge, who had a fine 9-2 victory over Prestwich.

Failsworth lost 7-4 to North Chadderton, but moved up to fifth place.

THE President’s Trophy stayed in the family in the Oldham and District Parks Bowling League when Michelle Renshaw (Fitton 1) took the title by beating Diane Fish (Fitton 2) in the final.

The trophy was handed over by Michelle’s father, David, the league president, at the annual presentation evening at North Chadderton Social & Bowling Club.

Royton Cricket retained their hold on the championship trophy and also won the Clayton Cup by beating St. Paul’s ‘B’ in the final. St. Paul’s ‘A’ were the division one runners-up and their player Phillip Carr won the division’s merit prize.

Coalshaw Green Wanderers were the champions of division two and won the Pairs Division. Wanderers player Ian McDade won the merit prize.

The Pairs Trophy was won by Margaret and Keith Brooks (St. Paul’s ‘B’) from Vera and Les Butterworth (Uppermill).
