MOSSLEY are in the throes of spending £17,000 on improvements at their Seel Park ground.

Work has been completed on a £5,000 project to replace crumbling terracing opposite the main stand which had been cordoned off for some time because Tameside Council deemed it unsafe.

The local authority has also given Mossley a £6,000 grant on a pound-for-pound basis and the cash will be spent further upgrading the dressing rooms.

Mossley have already created a new home dressing room and now have three separate changing facilities which is a help when hosting representative matches and tournaments.

Mossley must quickly forget Saturday’s disappointing FA Cup exit as they tonight play Radcliffe Borough in the first round of the UniBond League’s President’s Cup.

And after conceding 11 goals in their last three matches, manager Chris Willcock said: “We have not had a problem scoring goals, but we have suddenly developed a soft centre.

“I may try and change things defensively, though it may have to be a case of allowing one or two players to leave before bringing in players to freshen things up”

Mossley striker Nick Boshell, younger brother of former Athletic midfield player Danny, has rejoined Liversedge after failing to command a regular first-team place at Seel Park.

CHADDERTON have re-signed central defender Tony Hanlon who is set to make his debut in tonight’s Vodkat North West Counties League first division game at Darwen.

Hanlon, who has also played for Oldham Town, has only recently been playing local Sunday football because of his work commitments which also mean he won’t be available for all games at the Broadway club.

Ian Knapman, Donovan Greenidge, Arron Sutcliffe and Bobby Fulham return after all missed Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Irlam in the Vodkat League Challenge Cup.

Adam Whitehead scored for Chadderton who drew 1-1 at home to Irlam in the reserve division.

OLDHAM TOWN manager Tony Mills has criticised Vodkat NWCL officials as they are already heading for a fixture pile-up.
Town’s cup exploits mean they have only played five league matches whereas two other teams have already completed 11.

“What frustrates me is that we had no midweek fixtures last week with no apparent reason for not playing. It is absolute madness,” explained Mills.

Francis Egan has returned to Town as head coach after a spell as assistant manager at Atherton LR.

Town have released Gary Chadderton, James Tindall and Justin Andrews, but still have a first-team squad of between 22/24 players and this season have no reserve side.

Mills admitted it is a massive problem keeping squad players happy.

ATHLETIC’S youngsters pulled off another fine result when they beat Walsall in the Youth Alliance Cup first round.

Despite fielding an injury-hit side, they raced into a 3-0 lead with goals from Tom Eaves, Nathan Kilcourse and free-scoring left-back Liam Dawson.

Athletic were forced to battle in the last half-hour as Walsall responded with two goals and a spell of heavy pressure.

But ’keeper Josh Ollerenshaw was in defiant form and made a crucial save in the last minute.
