REPRESENTATIVES of the successful teams show off the Oldham and District Golf League silverware.

CROMPTON AND ROYTON’S Autumn/Winter League began with Simon Moores, Simon Barrett, A and J Bottomley-Clift posting victory in the team Stableford by scoring 97 points.
They finished five points clear of second-placed Mark Sinfield, Steve Oldham, Richard Flynn and Steve Sharrocks.

Brothers Rick and Bob Irving scored 81 points to romp to victory in a two-man aggregate Stableford at STAMFORD. In second place with 76 points were Scott Merson and Bob Bloomer.
SADDLEWORTH ‘B’ duo Glyn Dixon and Bernard Andrew had a fine finish to the season.
First they claimed the Oldham and District League pairs matchplay title with a 2 and 1 victory in the final played at Oldham over Stamford ‘A’ pairing James Woodcock and Tony Cavanagh.
Then, 24 hours later, in the end of season team tournament held at Ashton, Dixon and Andrew continued the run with 42 points to claim second place — only missing out on top spot on a card-play-off.
Victors were home players Dave Elson and Simon McGauley with Darren Whiteley and Rob Fawcett (Dukinfield) third, also on 42, and Stamford’s Ian Grimsditch and Steve Lennon fourth on 41.
Whiteley was a busy man at the annual league presentation held at the event as Dukinfield also claimed the Brian Atack team award on 121 – one ahead of Stamford — and he also received the KO Cup and the ‘A’ division Fairplay award.
The ‘B’ division award went to Ron Lewis’ Werneth.
Brookdale were celebrating a double as they won both the ‘A’ and ‘B’ division league titles while they also had a twin success in the new individual top points awards — Pete Buckley in the ‘A’ division and Paul Fry in the ‘B’.
WERNETH have been stunned by the sudden death of Terry Marner, one of the club’s most popular members.
Mr Marner, who recently had a new heart pacemaker fitted, collapsed on the 18th fairway last Friday as he walked the course with friend Brian Donnelly.
Former policeman Mr Marner, who was 71, was taken to the Royal Oldham Hospital where he died in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Mr Marner, who also helped out in the club shop at Werneth, was once a member at Saddleworth where his late brother Peter, the former Lancashire cricketer, also played golf.
Once a single-figure handicapper, Mr Marner lived in Hollinwood.
