Town take Cup scalp

OLDHAM Town claimed a notable scalp in the first round of the Manchester County FA Premier Cup last night.
Town recorded a superb 3-1 win over Abbey Hey, who play one division higher than Tony Mills’ men in the Vodkat North-West Counties League premier division.
In front through Leon Melia’s strike just after the half-hour mark, their lead was shortlived, however, as the visitors levelled six minutes later.
But a Lee Neville header from Jake Cotterill’s cross restored Town’s narrow advantage in the 76th minute, before Darren Scanlan sealed victory with a close-range tap-in late on.
Meanwhile, Mossley, from the UniBond League division one north, scored three second-half goals as they defeated Chadderton 3-0 to reach the next stage of the competition.
Dave Brook broke the deadlock, before Nicky Challinor and Scott Holt added to the Lilywhites’ tally.
