CHADDERTON turned on the style to win 5-0 at Daisy Hill in the first round of the Vodkat North West Counties League First Division Trophy.

The Broadway club barely missed the five first-team regulars who were unavailable, while even Gareth Morris’ sending off early in the second half failed to disrupt the momentum.

Left-back Chris Pauley hit the crossbar while Micky Green and Bobby Fulham also had great chances before Chadderton made the breakthrough six minutes before the break when Fulham slotted in from a Martin Booth pass.

Daniel Shaw set up Green to fire home Chadderton’s second goal early in the second half before Morris was dismissed for retaliation after being elbowed.

Arron Sutcliffe and Pauley linked to set up Fulham for his second and Chadderton’s third goal. And Pauley was the provider for the fourth goal, a spectacular diving header from Paul Socha into the top corner.

New-boy Joe Jacobs, signed from Uppermill, scored his first goal for the club in the dying seconds. He was released by Pauley’s diagonal ball and beat two defenders before smashing a shot into the top corner.

Chadderton are at home to Bootle in the second round on Saturday, November 29.

OLDHAM TOWN hit Ashton Town for six, registering a 6-0 home victory in division one of the Vodkat North West Counties League.

Darren Scanlan gave Oldham the perfect start as he opened the scoring after five minutes with a volley from a cross by D J Ogunlade.

Ashton lost their goalkeeper with a suspected broken collarbone after 12 minutes, but his replacement Phil Mooney made decent saves to deny Matt Landregan, Scanlan and Lee Neville.

However, he was powerless to stop Scanlan doubling the lead shortly before half time when he was set up by Landregan’s through ball.

Tom Hughes scored the third goal on the hour after being supplied by Jonny Phillips who also got in on the act by rifling home the fourth goal.

Ashton were reduced to 10 men when Chris McNally was sent off following a two-footed challenge on Andy Smith before Hughes added the fifth goal, after Phillips again provided the assist, and substitute Ryan Baldwin hit the sixth after a delightful build-up.

MOSSLEY drew 1-1 at Chorley in a poor game in UniBond League division one north.

Chorley took the lead after only five minutes when Jordan Connerton forced an angled cross-cum-shot from ex-Mossley player Steve Burke over the line from close range.

Striker Danny Egan, a player renowned for his goalscoring exploits as a substitute, was handed a rare start by Mossley and responded with a goal.

The equaliser came midway through the opening period when Egan scored from close range after Lee Blackshaw’s overhead kick had been blocked on the goalline.
