STAMFORD’S ‘Goodbye Summer’ medal was played in appalling conditions at the Carrbrook course.

And full credit was due to Kevin Barber and Peter Jackson as they both managed to return nett 66s.

Barber (79-13-66) emerged the victory on the card from Jackson (78-12-66).

The second event of CROMPTON AND ROYTON’S Autumn/Winter League was also played in such hostile weather that only four teams completed their rounds.

Winners with a score of 142 were Steve Davis, Terry Donovan, Tony Morris and Barry Hilton.

They finished two shots clear of second-placed Mark Sinfield, Steve Oldham, Richard Flynn and Steve Sharrocks who are second in the Order or Merit after also finishing runners-up the previous week.

Third with 146 were Stuart Thompson, Derek Tanner, Doug Kenyon and Vic Smith.

BROOKDALE’S Winter Final was a casualty of the weather and will now take place this Sunday. SADDLEWORTH’S singles Stableford was also washed out.

OLDHAM’S bisque bogey saw John Waterhouse and Bob Grange triumph with a score of six up against the course.

Runners-up were Alan Chadwick and Steve Smith (five up) while third were Ian Radcliffe and Martin Lewis (four up).

Vice-captain Colin Hare and Phil Dennis headed the field in a four-ball betterball medal with a score of 57.

Second were Paul Pattinson and Alex Simmons (58) while third were Norman Radcliffe and Norman Radcliffe jnr (59) on the card from John Glover and Mick Jones.

A 16-hole singles Stableford at WERNETH was won by Alan Cowling (34pts), on the card from John Martin.

The 16th and 17th holes, which are notoriously wet, have been closed for the winter months.
