OLDHAM RUFC ‘A’ faced a tough trip as they travelled to play Old Bedians and were soundly beaten 20–10.

Oldham’s chances were not helped when they lost two key players to injury during the early stages of the game and they fell behind after the hosts converted a couple of penalties from the plethora conceded.

A converted try from Danny Simpson brought Oldham back into contention but Bedians responded with a try and goal before Steve Connolly touched down for Oldham.

However, in the last five minutes Bedians made their dominance pay as they scored two tries to pull away.

Oldham 3rd’s also tasted defeat, going down 15-7 at home to Rochdale, despite taking the lead after a try from Anthony Beswick which was duly converted.

The scoreline remained this way until the interval but during the first half the weather conditions worsened significantly and the standard of play deteriorated likewise.

Oldham started the second half well but Rochdale broke through to score two tries, both after handling errors from Oldham players, and a tough rearguard action from Rochdale then kept the hosts at bay.

Oldham Vets were victorious away at Dukinfield on Saturday, coming away with a 17-14 win.

In an action-packed first half in which the horrid weather conditions made good play difficult, Dukinfield took the lead early on.

A try from newcomer Adam Deardon levelled matters, but a dubious try just before the interval meant that Dukinfield led at the break.

The Oldham forwards dominated the second half, however, and were duly rewarded as tries from Mike Royston and George Bernard gave them a hard-fought success.

Another away fixture for the Vets the following day brought another victory as they defeated West Yorkshire Rags 35-28.

Six tries were scored in the first half with Vets star Gary Blogg twice touching down to cancel out tries from Rags.

Oldham then took the lead for the first time in the match with tries from Chris Davies and Chris Pickles.

Rags managed to pulled points back with a try against the run of play but Blogg completed his hat-trick and Mark Fitton added his fifth conversion of the day.
