GREENFIELD’S Peter Gill has picked up the Armstrongs Office Furniture Saddleworth and District Cricket League amateur bowling prize for 2008.
The former Ladhill Lane skipper battled against a persistent knee problem to take 44 wickets at an average of 13.3.
The slow bowler ended up spearheading the Greenfield attack after a change of captain part-way through last season.
Bamford Fieldhouse’s Andy Smith-Butler had a superior average — 10.3 — but was 12 wickets short of the qualifying mark for the prize.
The leading batsman was Zeeshan Khan, who enjoyed a superb first season as Uppermill’s overseas amateur.
The Pakistani scored 1,117 runs at an average of 85.9. He finished way clear of Friarmere’s Friarmere’s Zafar Iqbal (1,194 runs at 59.7).
Meanwhile, Delph spinner Kamran Mirza has claimed the Drakes Huddersfield League bowling award for the third time in four years.
The former Friarmere player took 40 wickets in premiership one at an average of 12.18, finishing ahead of Barkisland duo Love Ablish and Matt Steers.
Delph’s leading batsman was Bilal Khilji, who struck 1,011 runs in all competitions at an average of 63.19.
The Pakistani all-rounder was fourth in the standings behind winner Steve Whitwam, of Golcar. He scored 1,281 runs at 75.35.
