AFTER a disappointing performance at the Inter-Area National Team Cyclo-Cross Championships on Sunday, racers from the North West will return to local action this weekend with two rounds of the North West League.
A total of 23 riders represented the North West at the event at Husbands Bosworth Airfield, near Lutterworth, but they struggled to compete against some of the best cyclo-cross riders from across the country.
The North West finished last of the qualifying teams in the senior race, with Rob Pugh being the best placed in 25th.
There were 21 teams competing in the veterans category, and North West A finished 12th with the B team 16th. Best North West finisher was Mick Style in 30th position.
The youth category saw perhaps the best performance from the North West, with the A team finishing fifth out of 20 and the B team 19th. Top North West youth riders were Jack Bowyer in 11th, Jack Humphreys in 14th and Dan Whelan in 31st.
In the North West League, this Saturday sees riders tackle the Geoff Bewley Memorial cross at Otterspool Park in Liverpool, while on Sunday it is round nine at Pignut Hill, Northwich.
