DYNAMIC Darren Smithies is making his mark on the national pool scene.
The Royton 15-year-old traded pots with some of the country’s top youngsters on his way to the quarter-finals of the National Youth Grand Prix in Great Yarmouth.
Darren, a pupil at Royton and Crompton School, lost 5–3 in the last eight of the Yarmouth event, but is making giant strides in the game and is a regular for the Greater Manchester pool team.
He also represents the Young Guns inter-league team as well as turning out against his elders when he plays for the Angel Inn, Royton, in the Shaw Pool League.
Dad Andy said: “He is eligible to play for the Angel, but then it’s straight off to bed!”
