NON-LEAGUE ROUND-UP
CHADDERTON triumphed over adversity as they won 2-1 at Holker Old Boys in the first division of the Vodkat North West Counties League.
A spate of late withdrawals meant that Chadderton travelled to Cumbria with only 12 players, and they included two goalkeepers.
Manager Paul Buckley summoned Nick Fraine, who is studying at Lancaster University and he made it to Barrow for half time to bolster them numerically.
Chadderton made a dream, start taking a fourth-minute lead through Bobby Fulham’s effort after Ian Knapman had beaten five opponents in a weaving run.
Joe Jacobs, who was making his full debut, had a goal chalked out for a foul on the Old Boys keeper before having one which counted shortly before half time.
Chadderton had chances to increase their advantage in the second half before they visibly tired in the latter stages.
And they were caught on the break in the 87th minute when Todd Bamber fired a low shot past keeper Lee Swanson who later made a super save as Chadderton held on.
OLDHAM TOWN crashed out of the FA Vase, losing 5-3 at Bootle in the second-round proper.
Town fell behind to a sixth-minute goal from Sean Coulton following a disputed corner.
Jonny Phillips quickly equalised with a well-struck shot, but Bootle regained the lead through Anthony Hickey.
Andy Fowler extended Bootle’s advantage as he scored after 46 and 71 minutes.
Town made a fist of it as central defender Tim Buxton scored twice in quick succession to reduce the deficit to 4-3 with seven minutes left.
But after going three at the back pressing for an equaliser, Town were caught on the break when Paul Tosney scored for Bootle in the 87th minute.
MOSSLEY lost their fourth successive game in UniBond League division one north as they were beaten 3-2 at home by bottomclub Salford City.
It was City’s first league victory of the campaign and the Lilywhites were undone by their former player Danny Toronczak who scored twice.
Wayne McDonald added City’s third, but Mossley should have had more to show for their efforts than two goals from Danny Egan.
