Werneth ease off bottom place

WERNETH "F" moved away from the bottom of the table fourth division table in the Oldham and District Table Tennis League for the first time this season as a result of their 6-4 win against their "G" team in a closely-contested match in which Fred Pickles starred for the losers by winning all three of his singles.
At the other end of the table, Unison "D" regained their top position by defeating the young Our Lady’s team with Ian Connell, Dennis Heyes and Martin Haigh all gaining maximum victories.
After six successive away matches, Werneth "E" celebrated their return to the Coppice by recording a 10-0 victory against Deaf "B", thanks to splendid performances by Phil Coombe, Darren Mitzi and Joe Taylor.
Honeywell "D", featuring Ken Dunkerley, Derek Naylor and Alan Wynn, continue to retain first place in the third division, although they were given a hard game by Failsworth "B" for whom Dave Wilson, Vinny Gaffey and Joe Crawley played well.
The race for the Division 2 title continues to hot up, the present leaders Hollinwood "C" defeating Pennine 8-2 with trebles from Dave Cheetham and Bob Johnson and a double win for Joe Redikin who was edged out of a maximum triumph by the determined Glen Chadwick.
Werneth "C" defeated Grotton "B" 10-0, trebles being obtained by Karen Hill, Doreen Schofield and Terry Donlan while third-placed Honeywll "B" beat Uppermill "B" 6-4 due mainly to Tommy Ryan’s treble success.
At the foot of the table, Grotton "B" battle gallantly on but with ten successive defeats they are finding it rather difficult to cope in a competitive division.
OTTC "A" continue to occupy pole position in division one and defeated Honeywell "A" 6-4, David Griffith (3), Josh Boult (2) and Rebekah Griffith being the contributors.
BAE "A" edged out their "B" team 6-4 with Kevin Hill defeating Tony Bates, Tom Lang and Tony Smith.
