NON LEAGUE FOOTBALL

MOSSLEY bid to kick their losing habit tonight at Bamber Bridge in UniBond League division one north.

The Lilywhites have lost their last four league matches to slip from the play-off places to 10th spot.

And it won’t be easy tonight at Bridge who are in second place and in the running for the title.

Manager Chris Willcock continues to fine tune his squad and for the third time in the last month has raided troubled Leigh Genesis, this time for left-back Alex Mortimer.

The 26-year-old, who made one league appearance for Shrewsbury Town in 2002/03, has played non-league football for the likes of Gainsborough Trinity, Southport, FC United and Curzon Ashton.

Leaving Mossley are midfield pair Mitch Bailey and Dave Hanlon.

TONY MILLS has taken the blame for Oldham Town’s FA Vase exit at Bootle where they lost 5-3 in the second round.

“I picked the wrong team,” explained manager Mills who pointed out he went for flair and ability whereas he ought to have chosen players with heart and desire.

“There was no fight, desire, passion tackling and when seven or eight players don’t perform on the day you have no chance of winning,” declared Mills.

Mills says his team is one of the best in the league ability wise but he says they lack consistency and accused too many of having a “Sunday morning attitude.”

He explained: “We are a semi-professional side yet many of our players are bringing a Sunday mentality into Saturday football.

“They have the bad habits you expect from Sunday players. They turn up late, don’t wear club colours and mess around in the warm up if I am not there.”

Mills has signed 18-year-old winger Alex Dibley, who is based at Middleton, from Darwen who are also in the first division of the Vodkat North West Counties League.

CHADDERTON drew 1–1 at home to Ashton Athletic in the reserve division, John Shaw scoring for the Broadway side.
