DONS pair Pete Ramsden and Nick Weston remained unbeaten as they notched a 10-5 win over Balderstone in the Rochdale and Oldham Badminton League Open first division.
However, Balderstone bounced back at Littleborough to record their first win of the season.
The contest was tight throughout and despite fine wins from Littleborough’s Carl Davies and Chris Novotny, Balderstone clung on to win 8-7, Aman Chowdhury their star man.
Back on their home court, Balderstone then found Northern Flight too strong as the visitors recorded a comfortable 11–4 victory.
Littleborough travelled to face Tara and the encounter proved an exciting affair.
Following a good start from the home team, Littleborough fought back with a fine win from Mark Golding and Flora Bradshaw 15-12.
Tara’s Tony Weston dominated his first four games but was unable to prevent the away pair of David and Mark Golding from winning the final game 15-10. However, this did not stop Tara from recording a 9-6 win.
In Division 2, Saddleworth A continued their fine early-season form when Alpha Whitworth B were the visitors.
Alpha started well, winning three of the first four games, but Saddleworth fought back strongly with excellent performances from Martin Kelly and James Whyman, eventually winning 9-6.
Saddleworth then faced Lancashire Racquets B and, once again, James Whyman was in excellent form with four wins from five games.
Despite fine performances from the away side’s Tony Riddle, Saddleworth went on to record another 9-6 victory.
Racquets B played host to Spotland and three wins 15-9, 15-2 and 15-1 from Geoff Whittaker and Andy Trevarrow helped them to a comfortable 11-4 win.
Alpha Whitworth B subsequently proved too strong for Racquets B, excellent wins from Peter Ashworth and Will Millard helping them to a fine 10-5 win.
