Hughes inspires Town

MIDFIELD man Tom Hughes scored a hat-trick as Oldham Town recorded an impressive 5-1 victory at struggling Daisy Hill in the first division of the Vodkat North West Counties League.

Hughes opened the scoring after 10 minutes with a low shot and Leon Melia doubled the advantage with a neat finish.

Matty Landregan made it 3-0 midway through the opening period after beating two players to score.

Hughes took centre stage in the second half, smashing home an unstoppable shot from 35 yards for Town’s fourth goal and completing his treble in style by beating four players before scoring with another shot from outside the penalty area.

Adam Chadwick scored a consolation goal for Hill after a mix-up in the Town defence.

MOSSLEY completed back-to-back away victories with an impressive 4-1 win at Woodley Sports in UniBond League division one north.

The Lilywhites had won 2-0 at second-placed Bamber Bridge in midweek and are now back in the promotion picture.

Woodley’s artificial pitch proved no advantage for the home side as Mossley won the game with a three-goal blast in the space of five first-half minutes.

Once Danny Self fired Mossley ahead in the 17th minute with a volley from outside the box, home side heads dropped.

Self was also the pivotal figure in the second goal as he was tripped for the penalty which Danny Egan converted.

Mossley’s return to form has coincided with Danny Dignan’s recovery from a broken rib and the striker made it 3-0 midway through the opening half.

Woodley made a fist of it in the second half, but Mossley defended superbly before adding a fourth goal from Lee Blackshaw.

Hopes of a second successive clean sheet were dashed by a last-minute penalty from Danny Queeley.

CHADDERTON’S fine run came to an end following a 3-2 home defeat by Eccleshall in the first division of the Vodkat NWCL.

The Broadway side paid the penalty for an horrendous opening as they found themselves 3-0 down midway through the first half.

But it was an altogether different story in the second period as Chadderton staged a stirring recovery and were unlucky to finish empty handed.

Micky Green volleyed home a Chris Pauley cross from the edge of the box for Chadderton’s opening goal.

Then Bobby Fulham was tripped as Green’s penalty reduced the deficit to 3-2 with half an hour still to play.

Greenn had an effort tipped on to the crossbar by the Eccleshall keeper, Bobby Fulham had two great chances and Paul Socha had another effort well saved.
