GOLF: Charities handed Brookdale boost

THREE cancer charities have received £5,400, the proceeds of fund-raising activities at Brookdale.
Children with Leukaemia and Macmillan Nurses each picked up £1,350 from Paul Cain’s Captain’s Charity Day.
And Cain got to present the cheque to Children with Leukaemia’s patron Sandy Lyle, the former Open champion, during the Captain’s Cup at Wentworth in which he competed with vice-captain Lewis Marland.
The women have raised a remarkable £2,700 for Christie Cancer, the profits from social functions held throughout the year.
CROMPTON and Royton’s Texas scramble saw Mark Sinfield, Steve Sharrock, Richard Flynn and Steve Oldham emerge the victors with a score of 46.7.
In second place with 48.1 were Jordan and Mick Flint, George Shepherd and Chris Clark while third were Lee and Derek Conway, Peter Boggiano and Roy Hornibrook (49.4).
In the order of merit for the autumn/winter league, Sinfield, Sharrock, Flynn and Oldham stretched their lead as each player has 28 points.
The four co-leaders are eight points clear of Derek Conway who is in fifth place.
DEREK Saunders and Lee Newsome romped to victory in a four-ball betterball Stableford at OLDHAM with a score of 48 points.
Second were Dave Taylor and Gary Lee (45pts) on the card from Barry Lewis and Steve Taylor.
STAMFORD staged their annual matchplay challenge between the teams of the captain and president for the ‘Wooden Spoon.’
President Andy Lumley’s team won by only one point after against the side skippered by captain Harry Fearnley.
