Hollinwood dumped out

Andrew Bennett Memorial Trophy
HOLLINWOOD were dumped out of the competition at the first round stage, hammered 74-4 up the road at Littleborough.

The visitors paid a heavy price for turning up with only 11 fit players, plus two injured men who were strapped up to make up the numbers — a poor show which was blasted by long-standing club official Fred Halliwell.

"It was always going to be a hard job with several players injured from last week," he said.

"But it was made even harder when players just failed to turn up with no explanation.

"We thought we had moved on from situations like this, but once again players cannot be bothered to let you know they are not coming."

The home team scored early on in the game but, to their credit, Hollinwood bounced back and responded when Rick Roberts crashed over in the corner.

However, Littleborough crossed for a second try soon after and a steady procession of tries followed until, at the end, the home team were scoring almost at will.

Man-of-the-match Alistair Williams, Roberts, Paul Brooks and Ian Hunt battled hard all afternoon.
