OLDHAM Victoria are on the move in division two of the Lancashire and Cheshire League.
Vics are up to eighth in the table after a convincing 7-0 defeat of basement boys VC United.
However, it was a case of two points dropped for Santos, who were held to a 1-1 draw at fourth-placed Moorside Rangers.
Unable to turn possession into goal-scoring chances, they went behind against the run of play.
But Santos were back on level terms 10 minutes later when the Rangers ’keeper fumbled a routine cross and John Mayall calmly slotted the ball home.
And even though they were reduced to 10 men late on — all three of their substitutes were used when James Stockton had to go off because of injury — they went close to snatching a winner when Russell Clarke’s effort was tipped on to the crossbar.
AFC Oldham 2005 struggled to find their feet on table-topping Milton’s artificial surface.
They were much better after the break and goals from Callum Franklin and Aaron Murdock brought some consolation as they went down 4-2 to the unbeaten league leaders.
A new-look AFC Oldham’s reserve team recorded a stunning 7-3 success over pacesetting Moorside Rangers in division ‘C’, while Santos reserves continued their great run of form with a 4-2 win over Old Stretfordians thirds.
Wayne Beswick’s 30-yard thunderbolt was the pick of the goals after Santos, who were leading 2-0, had been reined in by their opponents.
Ben Dobson, Mick Kelly and Dominic Rathmill got the other goals.
Vics thirds were went down 6-3 at home to their Whalley Range counterparts, but manager Gary Dodsworth was delighted after his AFC Oldham thirds side secured a 2-1 success at Moston Brook thirds in division ‘D’.
