FA CUP

CHRIS Worsley, Curzon Ashton’s FA Cup hero, can barely believe he may be only 90 minutes away from playing in the third round.

The 21-year-old from Waterhead, who scored Curzon’s opening goal in the 3-2 win against Coca-Cola League Two side Exeter City in the last round, will be striving to make his dream come true when Curzon visit Blue Square Premier side Kidderminster Harriers tomorrow.

Worsley, a fork lift truck driver for Royton firm Money Controls, said: “I am a boyhood Manchester United fan and to draw them or another Premier League club in the third round would be fantastic.

“But we know it is so near and yet so far as we must first overcome Kidderminster who are doing well in their league.”

It will take a huge effort for Curzon to progress as Kidderminster are three divisions higher in the footballing pyramid.

Worsley admitted there was frustration when Curzon’s reward for beating Exeter was an away trip to Worcestershire.

He said: “We were definitely disappointed as we would have liked a draw like Histon, who are at home to Leeds United.

“A tie like that would have been great for us because of the television rights and all the other revenue it would have raised for the club.

“We know it will be difficult at Kidderminster but we know that if we play as well as we can do then we have a good shout.”

Worsley admitted he savoured his “15 minutes of fame” following his exploits against Exeter, but has kept his feet on the ground.

“Some people might have got carried away, but I have tried not to get distracted because the cup is only a one-off. The most important thing is the league which we are trying to get out of.”
