WATERHEAD suffered a 42-4 defeat at high flyers Milford Marlins in National Conference League division two.
The Leeds outfit were too strong for Mick Slicker’s men and opened up a 24–0 lead by half-time.
Paul Coates scored the first two tries for the home team, the second after throwing a superb dummy, before centre Chris Smith went over for two more.
Andy Barker was next in for a fifth for the home team before the break, Coates adding two goals.
The visitors started the second half defending stoutly but were unable to stem the tide and Ben Fawcett forced his way over, Coates converting.
James Barrie was next in for the home team, before substitute Scott Beswick crossed for a consolation for Waterhead, for whom hooker Andrew Cheetham stood out.
Matty Smith notched up Milford’s eighth try late on, Coates goaling, to leave the Marlins four points clear at the top of the table.
The division one clash between Oldham St Anne’s and Widnes St Marie’s was postponed.
