Table Tennis round up
CURRENT fourth division leaders Unison D were defeated 7-3 by third-placed Owls B in the Oldham Table Tennis League.
That enabled OTTC C to draw within one point of top place after their 9-1 defeat of Werneth G. Natalie Dodd is the only player in the league, playing regularly, with a 100-per-cent record having won all her 36 sets.
In the third division, second-placed Droylsden A were held to a draw by Coldhurst C in a close-fought match. Coldhurst C then drew with Unison B in another excellent game.
The juniors of Failsworth C moved into third place with an 8-2 win against Coldhurst D, while Uppermill B, for whom Jim Bradbury was the solitary winner, went down 9-1 to Failsworth B.
Hollinwood C extended their lead at the head of the second division with a 9-1 win against Coldhurst A.
Werneth C despite a 5-0 lead, had to be satisfied with a 7-3 result as each Unison A player claimed one win.
Honeywell B’s 8-2 win over Hyde YMCA B keeps them in contention for promotion.
Three wins from Pete Watson enabled Uppermill A to defeat Werneth D 6-4.
Hollinwood E shared the points with Pennine, mainly thanks to Bob Johnson, while Hollinwood D defeated Honeywell C 7-3 with three wins from John Hannah.
In the first division, there was a double blow for OTTC A, who were defeated for the first time this season along with Dave Griffith losing his 100-per-cent record to the talented Saddleworth CC player Darren Lindley.
Last year’s champions Glodwick, are back in contention with convincing 9-1 wins over Werneth A and BAE A.
Hollinwood B had a 9-1 win over Rosehill A to keep them in third place, while Hollinwood A scored maximum points against a depleted Rosehill B.
Adam Rowbotham had an excellent three wins in Honeywell A’s 7-3 win over Grotton A which included a victory against Shaun Ellis.
