Dons pair set up victory

DONS pair Nick Weston and Pete Ramsden helped their side to a 10-5 win at Whitworth Alpha A in the first division of the Oldham and Rochdale Badminton League.

The away side started well, with wins from Weston and Tony Mooney 15-9 and Mooney/Dave Fox 15-6, but the Alpha pair of Paul Baker/Danesh won two games 15-3 and 15-5 to keep them in the hunt.

However, Weston and Ramsden recorded three wins 15-5, 15-3 and 15-9 to seal victory for the unbeaten Dons..

Lancashire Racquets A also remain unbeaten. An away tie with Northern Flight saw Racquets notch up an early lead with wins for Richard Hadfield/Peter Burke 15–9 and Mike Winterburn/Anthony Riddle 15-9.

The away pair of Hadfield/Winterburn dominated their games together, recording 15-1, 15-4 and 15-13 wins to help Racquets to a 10-5 success.

Racquets next match saw them visit Lydgate, where they quickly built up an unassailable lead. The home pair of Grimshaw/Power played well to win two games 15-11 and 15-9, but Racquets went on to record a 9-6 win. Man of the match was Racquets’s Richard Hadfield who was unbeaten.

Racquets were also successful at Balderstone. The home side’s Amahn Chowdhury and Paul Lyons won three games each, but Racquets looked comfortable throughout, eventually winning 11-4, Ian Shoreman remaining undefeated.

Lydgate played host to Balderstone and the match was at first closely fought with the score tied 5-5. Balderstone then found a different gear, with Brian Dearden/Bill Darling winning 15-3 and 15-7 to help them through to a 10-5 away victory.

Tara went top of the table after a win at Northern Flight. Colin Dunn helped the away side with two wins 15-6 and 15-1 and remained unbeaten as Tara recorded a 9-6 victory.

In Division 2, Springhill welcomed Whitworth Alpha B and wins from Lewis Gregory/Lewis Wild 15-4 and Gregory/Danny Thompson helped to open up a 7-1 lead.

Alpha’s Will Millard/Guman Batra tried to get back in the match with 15-1 and 15-3 wins, but Springhill held on for a 9-6 victory.
