THE Oldham men’s darts team overcame a spate of cry-offs to defeat Burnley 8-2 and remain top of the premier division in the Lancashire GMC Super League.

Six regulars were unavailable for a variety of reasons and, shortly before the match began, Oldham had only seven players before managing to rustle up three more of their squad men.

Far from unsettling the side, Oldham made a whirlwind start by winning their first seven matches.

Mick Kenway, who came out of ‘retirement’ showed he had lost none of his old panache as he was named man of the match.

He won his match 3-1 in 16, 21 and 14 darts at an average of 81.69.

Oldham’s other winners were Neil Hunter (3-2), John Downs (3-1), John Morton (3-0), Mark Tomlinson (3-1), Chris North (3-1, 80.43), Peter Day (3-2) and Dave Rawstron (3-2, 79.62).

Oldham have one of their toughest fixtures on Sunday when they play away to Eccleston, who were once St Helens Town, their fiercest rivals.

OLDHAM women had Tracey Hindle to thank as they snatched a 4-4 draw at home to Milnrow in a local derby in the premier division of the Lancashire GMC Super League.

They were 4-3 down when last player Hindle stepped up to the oche and recorded a 3-1 victory to square the match.

Oldham’s three other victories were secured by Carol Geddes (3-0), Janet Fox (3-0) and Joan Hicken (3-1).

Oldham have home advantage again on Sunday when Southport visit the Flower Pot.
