THE Oldham men’s darts team were held to a 5-5 draw at Eccleston in the battle of the top two in the premier division of the Lancashire GMC Super League.
There was disappointment for Oldham who were 5-3 ahead only to lose their last two matches.
But the draw maintains Oldham’s hold on top spot as a number of their players recorded fine victories in a high-quality match which produced eight 180s and 153 hundreds.
Mick Kenway, for example, defeated Dave Chisnall, who next month plays Martin Adams in the BDO world championships at The Lakeside, Frimley Green, Surrey. Kenway triumphed 3-2, averaging 78.38 every three darts.
John Morton, who has won a Lancashire county recall after an absence of 24 years, continued his sparkling run with a 3-0 success at an average of 89.08.
Oldham’s three remaining victories came from Stuart Holden (3-1, 78.04), Dave Yates (3-0, 78.15) and Chris North (3-0, 84.98).
Oldham’s next super league match is on Sunday, January 4 at home to Lune Valley.
Oldham women had trouble nailing their doubles as they were beaten 5-3 at home by newly-promoted Southport in the premier division of the Lancashire GMC Super League.
Winners were Janet Fox (3-1), Nicola Murphy (3-0) and Shereen Downs (3-0).
Their next match in on Sunday, January 4 away to Bolton.
MANY of Oldham’s town team darts players will be in action at Denton Cricket Club tomorrow.
