OLDHAM TOWN will be hoping it is a case of third-time lucky tonight as they attempt to play their second-round tie in the First Division Trophy.
Ashton Town visit the Whitebank Stadium having been forced to surrender home advantage following two failed attempts to stage the game.
Oldham secretary Dave Shepherd believes there is a 50-50 chance of tonight’s game proceeding, though he described the pitch as resembling a boating lake over the weekend.
If Oldham triumph they will win through to the quarter-finals of a third cup competition in what is proving to be a successful season.
MOSSLEY are also in action tonight at Chorley in the third round of the President’s Cup in the UniBond League.
The Lilywhites had been due to visit Victory Park last Tuesday night only for the game to be postponed due to a frozen pitch.
Mossley’s home league match against Wakefield was postponed on Saturday and, with no game this weekend, manager Chris Willcock is anxious to get tonight’s game played.
The Lilywhites have extended the loan of midfield player Christian Hirst from League Two Macclesfield Town for a second month.
CHADDERTON can once again play games under floodlights thanks to the help of Good Samaritan Ian Thomas.
The local businessman, whose Fitton Hill-based company is High Level Cleaning, donated a cherry-picker platform lift to enable an electrician to change a number of lamps which had blown.
Chadderton’s home game against AFC Blackpool on Saturday was postponed due to waterlogging so club officials took advantage of the free day to replace two lamps while the electrician repaired a third.
Due to the Broadway pitch being under water it was impossible to get the cherry-picker on to the main stand side of the pitch where two more lamps need replacing.
But with lighting restored to three lamps, Chadderton once again have sufficient capacity to enable floodlit matches to take place.
