WILL MELLOR scored a hat-trick of tries as Oldham RUFC’s third team defeated Village Spartans 57-5.
There were also two touchdowns for Jason Green and one each for Jamie Edwards, Robert Froggatt and Alan Pierre.
Green kicked seven conversions and one penalty to complete the scoring for the Manor Park side, who had to come from behind as Spartans had taken a 5-0 lead.
Oldham ‘A’ did not fare so well as they were heavily beaten 45-5 by Broughton.
The cause was not helped by having to make eight changes from the previous week.
It was one-way traffic in the opening half as Broughton established a 33-0 lead.
Oldham made a better fist of it in the second half and were rewarded with an Andy Newton try which followed a superb handling move.
COLTS, who only had 13 players, were trailing 17-12 at New Brighton when the match was abandoned with 10 minutes remaining due to a serious injury sustained by a home player.
Tries from Michael Ward and Mark Goodman, who converted his own touchdown, gave the local side a 12-0 half-time lead before New Brighton took advantage of their their two extra players in the second period as they hit back to overturn their deficit.
