Glodwick glee in top clash

THE top two teams in Division 1 of the Oldham & District Table Tennis League met, with reigning champions Glodwick beating OTTC A 7-3, thanks mainly to Mick Moir (3) and Andy Jackson (2), to open a nine-point lead at the top.
Third-placed Hollinwood B beat Grotton A by the same score. Ian Quinn, George Jones and Colin Boardman all won two with Shaun Ellis (3) replying.
Both Rosehill teams suffered heavy defeats, the A team 9-1 to Werneth A and the B team 10-0 to Honeywell A.
Werneth C stretched their lead at the top of the second division with a 7-3 win at nearest rivals Honeywell B. Karen Hill (3) and Paul Wilkinson (2) secured the win with Brian Higgins (2) replying for the home side.
Hollinwood C regained second place following a 9-1 win over bottom club Grotton B thanks to Dave Cheetham (3) Joe Redikin (3) and John Flowers (2).
Tommy Ryan’s three for Honeywell C salvaged a draw against Unison A for whom Andy Hey and Liaquat Ali doubled.
Werneth D lost 7-3 at Hyde YMCA B and drew 5-5 against Hollinwood D for whom Steve Mather (3) and Andy McNabb (2) starred. Mick Pellowe won two in both matches.
Division 3 leaders Honeywell D continue to drop points, this time to the juniors of Failsworth C who were also a player short. Brilliant performances from Paul King (3) and Callum Jones (2) secured a 5-5 draw.
Unison C moved up to second place following a 6-4 win at Coldhurst B, thanks to Mike O’Gara (3) and Frank Sheldon (2).
Division 4 leaders Unison D had a comfortable 9-1 win over Honeywell F. Dennis Heyes and Martin Haigh trebled and Tony Hyde doubled.
