OLDHAM RUFC ‘A’ XV overcame pack problems to beat Bury 32-11 at Manor Park.
With no recognised prop forwards available, they were forced to play three hookers in the front row.
But it failed to disrupt Oldham, whose two props were making their debuts in that specialised position, as they established an emphatic 20-3 half-time advantage through tries from Will Mellor, Phil Graham and Jamie Edwards while Danny Simpson kicked one conversion and a penalty.
Matty Collins and Mellor added further tries early in the second period with Simpson converting one of the touchdowns.
Oldham, holding a 32-3 advantage, eased off late in the game when Bury scored a consolation try and kicked a penalty.
COLTS recorded a 20-5 home victory against a useful Newcastle-under-Lyme side.
Jordan McEwan and Michael Ward scored first-half tries while Mark Goodman kicked one conversion and a penalty as the local side moved 15-0 ahead by the break.
Newcastle got on to the scoresheet with a try early in the second period which acted as a wake-up call for Oldham who added a third try of the match late on through Ward, his second of the game.
