SPRINGHEAD stormed back to the top of the Bridgewater Office Supplies Manchester League in emphatic fashion with a 5-1 demolition job on Prestwich Heys.
Paul Stevenson was the hero for the local side, grabbing his first hat- trick for the club.
Stevenson gave them the lead after eight minutes when he beat the onrushing keeper to the ball to flick his header into an empty net and they doubled their lead 10 minutes later when Harrison’s corner went straight in.
It was 3-0 just before half time when Stevenson grabbed his second of the game with a deft lob over the keeper.
Prestwich pulled a goal back when Jolly’s free kick left Lee Milner stranded, but Dale Jackman smashed home a 20-yard drive before strike partner Stevenson completed his hat-trick and a comfortable Springhead win.
Next up for Springhead is a WRC fourth round tie with West Riding Premier League big boys Golcar at Ashfield Crescent on Saturday (1pm).
OLDHAM under-15s must do better after the Christmas break if they are to finish the season among the honours.
The local lads have had a poor first half of the season by their own high standards and they are currently struggling to make an impact on the Greater Manchester Schools’ League, with Tameside looking to be the team to beat.
The under-15s have managed only one point – from a 4-4 draw against Bury - from their five league outings and are also out of the North West Alder Owen Trophy after suffering a narrow 4-3 reverse against Sefton.
Oldham’s best chance of silverware would appear to be in the Greater Manchester Schools’ County Cup, although they have a tough away trip to take on high-flying Bolton in the quarter-finals, the remaining ties being: Stockport v Manchester, Macclesfield or Trafford v Wigan, Tameside v Salford. All ties by January 31.
CROMPTON House Year Sevens will face either St Thomas More College (Denton) or Wood Church High School (Birkenhead) in the last 32 of the English Schools FA Cup.
The tie is scheduled to take place on or before Saturday, January 17.
