GREATER Manchester will be defending their Endsleigh County Championship title in 2009. The home team, pictured before the final against Derbsyhire at Hopwood Unionist Club, was, from left to right, back: Andrew Lowe, Mark Dwayre, Darren Griffiths, Mike Holden, Andrew Buckley, Peter Craig, Nicky Brooks. Front: Matt Gillies, John Wade, Chris Heyes, Colin Lane, Paul Heap.
WATERLOO and Taunton kicked off the New Year in style with a 10-1 victory over struggling Springbank in the ‘A’ Division of Chadderton Cot’s Inbev Winter Bowling League.
New Street, who are having an inconsistent season, lost 8-3 to second-placed Hopwood, while leaders Royle marched on with an 8-3 verdict against Springhead, who performed with credit.
In the ‘B’ Division, Failsworth had five individual winners against Dogwood, but lost the aggregate by two chalks as the latter won 6-5.
Unbeaten Tonge beat North Chadderton 7-4 and threaten to go through the whole campaign without losing.
But, after their recent good form, Vixens slumped to a disappointing 9-2 defeat at the hands of Nimble Nook.
