Darters stay out in front

THE Oldham men’s darts team remain top of the Lancashire GMC Super League premier division following an emphatic 8-2 home victory against Lune Valley.

It was an excellent result, especially bearing in mind regulars Dave Rawstron, Chris North, Steve Holditch and Neil Hunter were all unavailable.

Valley, meanwhile, had five Lancashire players in the line-up for the match which produced some tremendous throwing with 142 hundreds and four 180s.

Oldham made an inauspicious start, losing two of their first three matches before reeling off six straight victories.

One of those came from former Cheshire player Ian Walters, who was making his debut for Oldham and recorded a 3-0 win at an average of 79.15.

Peter Connolly was man of the match, averaging 87.71 every three darts in his 3-0 victory.

Lee Williams had an emphatic 3-0 win against Lancashire ‘A’ player Gary Vincent, while John Morton defeated Mick Oversby, another Lancashire ‘A’ man, 3-1.

Oldham’s other victories came from Dave Yates (3-2, 84.83), Mick Kenway (3-1, 76.45) and Scott Morris (3-1, 81.62).

OLDHAM women held second-placed Bolton to a 4-4 away draw in the premier division of the Lancashire GMC Super League. And it might have been a victory as Oldham lost two matches on the final double.

Oldham’s winners were Gaynor Ogden (3-0), Tracey Hindle (3-2), Janet Fox (3-0) and Shereen Downs (3-1).

The women have a rearranged home game against Blackpool at the Flower Pot on Sunday.
