Pearson’s pounds make prizes

JOHN PEARSON has hit a rich vein of form in Chadderton Mill AC matches.
He clinched top honours in the Boxing Day contest and followed up with an impressive victory on Saturday, both wins coming on the club water.
Boasting four carp and some ide on maggot at 13 metres, Pearson weighed in 13lb to secure the first leg of his double success.
Steve Hall, the runner-up, returned 11lb 8oz of small carp taken on pole-fished pellet.
Dave Barnett, in third place, decided on a different approach. He chose the feeder and maggot for 10lb 12oz.
Pearson blew the field away days later, even though, like everyone else, he had to break the ice.
The freezing-cold conditions limited the length of pole fished to nine metres, but it made no difference to Pearson.
He managed a bite every put in, with carp to 4lb falling to his maggot approach for an incredible 30lb bag.
Paul Hill has had a cracking season so far, and he had a four-carp catch on maggot over groundbait for 11lb 8oz.
Ian Cox also caught four carp as well as some bits on maggot for a third-best 9lb 8oz.
Lee Humphries, in fourth, had 8lb of ide and roach on maggot at full depth.
Venue Guide
Rochdale Canal: Liquidised bread and bread punch is still the best bait on the canal. Pegs at Slattocks and behind the business park are producing small skimmers and roach. Please take care when breaking the ice.
Chadderton Mill: Although a little patchy at the weekend this is probably the only water in the area that could produce a 30lb net. Maggot fished at just nine metres is the best bet.
Hollingrove Dam: Roach and perch are falling to the pole, pinkie and maggot.
Huddersfield Narrow Canal: Only a few hardy souls are venturing out and they are being rewarded with fish on bread punch and pinkie.
