Springbank stun league leaders
Date published: 13 January 2009
SPRINGBANK caused a huge shock in the ‘A’ Division of the Inbev Winter Bowling League at Chadderton Cot when they defeated leaders Royle 9-2.
In beating the Rochdale outfit on a green made treacherous following a sharp frost, Springbank not only dealt their rivals a blow to their title aspirations but also gave themselves a chance of avoiding the drop into the ‘B’ Division.
Third-placed Waterloo and Taunton were also on the wrong end of a shock when they went down 8-3 to Radcliffe, while New Street bounced back to form with a 9-2 defeat of Lees/Springhead.
Sunday’s conditions were much easier as temperatures climbed and ‘B’ Division champions elect Tonge demonstrated their aplomb on the artificial surface with an 11-0 demolition of Vixens.
Second-placed Nimble Nook cruised to a 10-1 win against Prestwich, while North Chadderton beat Dogwood 7-4 in a tight encounter.
