GRAHAM MITCHELL is always hard to beat when the going gets tough.

Conditions were far from favourable in the latest Chadderton Mill AC match on the club water — but the GTI Sports rod rose to the occasion.

He fished maggot on the deck at 10 metres on peg one, where he caught two small carp and some ide for a match-winning 5lb 6oz.

Organiser Lee Humphries, of GTI Matchman, was close up in second place, with a two-carp haul tipping the scales at 5lb 2oz.

John Pearson (Stalybridge) has won the last two matches on this venue, but he had to settle for third place on this occasion, weighing in a single carp for 3lb 14oz.

Andy Lees (Gilders) was fourth after landing one small carp and a few ide, taken on the pole and maggot, for a 2lb 10oz total.

Considering anglers had to break the ice, the water fished reasonably well.

SEVERAL local anglers performed with great credit in the Bannister House Fishery open.

Peter Humphreys, of Gilders, was the runner-up, with bread punch at 11 metres netting 25lb 11oz of F1’s.

Another Oldham rod, Conrad Taylor (Gilders), was fourth. He opted for pellet in the deeper water for 14lb 5oz of small carp.

TODMORDEN AS members are reminded that subs should be paid by Saturday, January 31.

Prices are — Seniors £34, after which the price goes up to £44; Juniors £5, with no increase; women and OAPs £17, with no increase.

The club are also offering a five-year deal at £150 for seniors and £75 for concessions.

Memberships can be bought at Tight Lines, Shaw and Sheddings Angling on Ripponden Road.

Venue Guide

Rochdale Canal: Ice has melted and should start producing fish in the next couple of weeks.

Chadderton Mill: Weights were low in the last match, but should improve with higher temperatures.

Hollingrove Dam: Silver fish to pinkie and maggot.

Huddersfield Narrow Canal: Very few anglers out and about. The best areas are the Uppermill basin and pegs on the Saddleworth match length.
