OLDHAM RUFC’S wounds were self inflicted as they lost 21-10 at Trafford MV in a club match.
Joe Rae and Dean McEwan were sin-binned in the last 10 minutes of an evenly-contested game when the scores were level at 10 points apiece.
Trafford MV took advantage as stand-off Andy Moore kicked two penalties and scored a try to seal victory.
Oldham hurriedly arranged the friendly as they had not played for four weeks and they desperately needed match practice before their league campaign resumes at Burnley on Saturday.
However, Oldham were hit by the late withdrawals of Steve Molloy and Peter Scrivens to add to an already depleted line-up.
They were weakened further after only three minutes when forward Ross Cooper was forced off with a leg injury.
With no replacements, Oldham summoned 49-year-old David Roscoe into action as he was on the sidelines to watch his son Luke play.
David was put on the wing while the pack was rejigged as Luke, Jordan McEwan and Brian Massey formed a back row of Colts players.
Yet the youngsters pushed and shoved Trafford MV’s pack about all afternoon and did themselves proud.
David Roscoe rounded off a flowing move with a try in the corner and centre Joe Hesse put Oldham in front before Trafford cashed in late on.
