Non-League round up

IT IS a measure of how high Mossley have set their standards that they were bitterly disappointed by Saturday’s 1-1 draw at home to high-flying Lancaster City.
Had the Lilywhites displayed a cutting edge - they were denied three times by the woodwork - they would surely have picked up all three points against City, who are second in UniBond League division one north.
Mid-table Mossley made a superb start as Danny Self put them ahead in the third minute from a Lee Blackshaw free kick.
And they ought to have had victory assured in the opening half-hour as Self struck an upright, two other efforts were cleared off the line and City keeper Adam Beasley pulled off some important saves.
Mossley paid for those misses as City equalised in the 35th minute when a scuffed shot from Adam Airey somehow found a way past keeper Andy Robertson.
Mike Fish and Danny Dignan both saw efforts hit the City woodwork, but Mossley also had a let-off when Paul Haddow missed a sitter after a lob bounced back off the crossbar.
OLDHAM TOWN’S promotion push in the first division of the Vodkat North West Counties League was dealt a setback following a 2-1 defeat at Irlam.
Town took a 19th minute lead when Lee Neville cut in from the right to find the net with a well-placed shot.
Both Neville and Matt Landregan went close to extending the lead but Scott Hughes equalised on the hour with a shot from outside the penalty area.
Neville ought to have put Town back ahead but shot inches wide and it was left to Jonathan Lyons to hit the winner for Irlam with seven minutes remaining.
CHADDERTON gave a gallant display before losing 1-0 at Wigan Robin Park, who are fourth in division one of the Vodkat NWCL.
The Broadway side would have caused an upset had they been able to convert a fraction of the chances they created.
Micky Green had a shout for a penalty turned down while Bobby Fulham and Daniel Shaw had good chances for Chadderton, who fell behind against the run of play to a 44th minute breakaway goal from Danny Worthington.
The second half followed a similar pattern with Chadderton in control as Green wasted three clear-cut chances while Carl Taylor headed over.
Chadderton keeper Lee Swanson was rarely called into action, though he was forced to make one splendid save.
With central defender Tony Hanlon an injury doubt, Chadderton are at home to Bootle tonight (7.45) in the quarter-finals of the First Division Trophy.
