Adam races to county title

OLDHAM and Royton Harriers’ Adam Howard turned in a superb display at the Greater Manchester County Cross-Country Championships, at Woodbank Park, Stockport, by winning the under-13 boys title.
Adam clocked 9mins 14 secs, with team-mate Robert Smith not far back in 10th place in 10:10.
Jane Augsberger also had a good run in the under-17 women’s race to finish strongly in fourth place in 22:01, while Mike Mannings ran a fine race to finish in 10th place in the senior men’s race in 39:31.
There were also good runs for Mike Smith, finishing 13th in the under- 15 boys race in 11:39, Jane Courtnall, 37th in the under-15 girls race in 14:59, and Brian Schofield, 65th in the men’s race in 51:19.
Back in the South East Lancs Cross-Country League, at Blackley, Christopher Brown led the under-11 boys team to second place overall with a great win in 5:10, with Luke Brierley seventh in 5:45 and Joseph Kershaw ninth in 6:02.
Jane Augsburger had a superb run in the under-17 women’s race to win in 19:57, followed by Andrea Baker, fifth in 24:17.
In the under-13 boys race, Adam Howard and Robert Smith led the team to a great win, finishing first and second with Adam clocking 8:21 and Robert 8:53.
Connor Colleavey had a great run in fifth place in 9:25 with Jamie Burrows seventh in 10:10, Nathan Hilditch eighth in 10:39, Christopher Hague 11th in 11:18, S Sykes 12th in 12:44 and G Gilmore 13th in 13:50.
G Brierley had a good run in the under-11 girls race to finish ninth in 6:01 with Megan Whitworth 11th in 6:14.
In the under-13 girls race, Lucy Kerhsaw finished strongly for 12th in 11:18, followed by Layla Bramall, 14th in 11:33.
Despite mix-ups about which laps to do in the under-15 boys race, Mike Smith finished second in 8:07 with Jacob Ragan third in 8:40.
Curtis Atkinson finished well for fifth place in the under-17s race in 21:33, while in the under-5 girls race, E Hook was ninth in 20:50.
In the senior men’s, race Daniel Timperley had a good run in 26th in 42:47, with John Hudson 35th in 44:59, Brian Schofield 46th in 48:06 and Darren Mannings 57th in 49:05.
