OLDHAM RUFC ‘A’ XV made hard work of their 27-21 home victory against Didsbury Toc H.

The discipline of the side again left much to be desired as the players conceded too many penalties which could have cost them dearly.

Oldham made a dreadful start as Toc H built a 14-5 lead, Paul Crossley scoring the local side’s only points as he ghosted in for a try following a ruck.

But the Manor Park side hit back with tries from Matty Collins and Will Mellor which, along with a Danny Simpson conversion, turned the deficit into a 17-14 half-time lead.

Jack Taylor extended their advantage to 22-14 with a try soon after the restart before Toc H fought back again with a converted try to reduce Oldham’s lead to one point.

Toc H threw everything at Oldham who, against the run of play, scored their final try when Mellor touched down for a second time.

Oldham had to defend their own line for the last seven minutes and conceded a string of penalties, mainly for dissent. Only some wonderful last-ditch tackling kept their opponents at bay as they seemed intent on throwing away this hard-earned victory.

EXTRA ‘A’ never recovered from an awful opening period as they crashed to a 44-5 defeat at Bury.

They found themselves 34-0 down at the break and in the second half managed a consolation try from Jason Green who dashed half the length of the field to score following an interception.

VETS were forced to overturn a half-time deficit before registering a 17-12 home victory against Pendle.

The local side was 12-5 down at half time, Pete Whitehurst’s try their only score..

Oldham, with the wind at their backs, dominated the second period and snatched victory after tries from Mike Royston and Rick Brierley.

COLTS beat Fleetwood 20-5 with two first-half tries from Ryan Wan proving putting them on top in a bruising encounter. They added second-half touchdowns by Jack Taylor and Jordan McEwan.
